The downsized Malibu station wagon shared the same wheelbase as the sedans and coupes from 1978, down by 8” (203mm). The Malibu wagon came with all-vinyl bench seats and had a 48” (1219mm)-wide cargo space with a total loading area of 72.4cu-ft (2,050L). There were storage compartments on the sides and below the cargo floor and the two-piece tailgate could be half-opened up like a hatch or opened top and bottom for full access.
